    Tom Nelson was elected to the Azusa Pacific Athletics Hall of Fame in 1991. From 1958-1962, he was a member of the Azusa Pacific Football, Basketball, and Baseball teams. He was the first and only three-sport letterman in Cougar History. As a member of the Cougars’ football team, he was a two-year starter as a quarterback. As a member of the Cougars’ basketball team, he scored 2,185 points, averaging 19.3 points per game as a forward. As a member of the Cougars’ baseball team, he batted .331 for his career as a catcher/shortstop. In 1961 and 1962, he was named Athlete of the Year. After he finished his playing career with Azusa Pacific, he coached the Cougars’ Baseball Team to 337 wins in 13 seasons. During his final eight years, he led the baseball team to a 253-130 (.661) record.
