Justin Duarte was a member of both the Azusa Pacific Baseball and Football teams from 1996-1999. In his two seasons playing football for the Cougars he had 68 catches and three touchdown receptions, and was a member of the Azusa Pacific 1998 NAIA National Championship football team as a tight end. In his four seasons with the Azusa Pacific Baseball team, he batted .377 in his 135-game career, finishing second on the Azusa Pacific all-time list with 41 home runs. He was a two-time All-Golden State Athletic Conference pick and a 1999 NAIA All-American first team honoree. As a junior in 1998, Duarte batted .420 with 20 homeruns, and a school-record tying 69 RBIs. Throughout his career at Azusa Pacific, the Baseball team averaged 34 victories a year. Following his senior season (1999) at Azusa Pacific, he was drafted in the 22nd round by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 1999 Major League Baseball Draft.
