Sammy Martin was elected to the Azusa Pacific Athletics Hall of Fame in 1991. During his time at Azusa Pacific (1978-1980), he was a star on the Cross Country and Track & Field teams. He was a four-time NAIA All-American in track & field. He was a member of Azusa Pacific’s first NAIA District 3 track & field championship teams in 1979 & 1980. In 1979, he was crowned the NAIA National Champion in the 5,000m and 10,000m. In 1980, he again was crowned the NAIA National Champion in the 5,000m. During his career at Azusa Pacific he led Azusa Pacific to a 9-0 record and to the 1979 NAIA District 3 cross country championship. He set the APU record in the 10,000m (29:46.1) in 1980, and once held the APU record in the 5,000m (14:24.6) that he set in 1979.
