Hall of Fame
Duane Waltmire, who was elected to the Azusa Pacific Athletics Hall of Fame in 1991, was the first great Cougar distance runner and the forerunner of what was to come in the next decade. From 1975-1977, he was a member of the Cougar cross country and track & field teams. He was 2-time NAIA All-American, and in 1977, he was crowned the NAIA national champion in the 10,000-meters, winning with a 30:07.55. During his career at Azusa Pacific, he set school records in the cross country 8,000-meter (24:08) and in track's 10,000-meter.
