Big Island Bats

APU Puts on a Hitting Clinic to Take Game Four.

HILO, Hawai'i. – The Cougars were able to conclude their short visit to the Big Island with an excellent display of hitting as they routed the Vulcans, 7-1, to split the four-game series.

In their opening trip to the plate, they quickly set the tone with three runs off RBI's from Danny Yanez, Elijah Cook, and Jacob Freer. While the Vulcans were able to bring in a run in the bottom half of the inning, Blake Hagerty shook off the minor setback and the recurring theme of dominant starting pitching resumed for it.

The righthander from Chino Hills quickly settled in, not giving up a hit until the seventh inning while racking up five strikeouts on the way.

APU's lineup rewarded their starter's valiant effort with run support in the 4th, 5th, and 7th inning courtesy of Jacob Hayes, Allan Camarillo, and Diego Frey to go up 6-1.

In the eighth, Joey Frey toed the rubber for it and made quick work of the Hilo lineup, punching out three as Camarillo added another run via a sacrifice to help the Cougars close out their trip on a high note.
