Biography

THIS YEAR:  One of the Cougars' top power hitters, senior Danny Yanez is coming off a strong end to the 2024 campaign that sets the stage for him to be a team leader and in position to push for postseason honors ... Penciled to be the every-game starter in right field but also may fill a role as the designated hitter ... Has a powerful bat from the left side of the plate which should allow him to take advantage of the dimensions of the Cougar Baseball Complex.

2024: Appeared in 28 of the Cougars' 51 games, starting 22, primarily in right field ... Batted .286 with 4 home runs 5 doubles and 17 runs scored ... Struggled at the plate to start his Cougar career, going hitless in his first 7 games and batting just 6-for-37 (.162) through the first 2 months ... Caught fire over the final 3 weeks of the season, closing the campaign by hitting safely in 10 of the final 12 games, going 18-for-45 (.400) in that span against the PacWest's top teams, slugging 4 home runs with 4 doubles, and a triple ... Hit a  home run in 3 straight games, including a 2-run shot at Westmont to ignite a 7-3 Cougar victory ... Went 2-for-3 with 4 RBIs, a home run, a 2-run single, and bases-loaded walk in a 12-2 win over Fresno Pacific.

JUNIOR COLLEGE:  Spent 2 seasons playing for Head Coach Jake Portugal at San Diego Mesa ... For his junior college career, appeared in 74 games with the Olympians, batting .322 with 12 home runs, 23 doubles and 43 RBIs ... Enjoyed an outstanding 2022 freshman season when he was named All-Pacific Coast Athletic Conference (PCAC) first team after batting .320 with 8 home runs, 30 RBIs and 10 stolen bases ... Put together a mid-season 11-game hitting streak and closed the season by hitting safely in 25 of the final 28 games of the season ... Had 10 multi-hit games, including a 3-for-3 effort with a home run, a double and 2 RBIs vs. San Diego City ... As a 2023 sophomore, batted .325 with 4 home runs and received All-PCAC honorable mention ... Best game was a 5-for-5 effort with 3 doubles and 2 RBIs in a 14-5 win over San Diego City.

HIGH SCHOOL:  Played 2 seasons of varsity baseball for Head Coach Jordan Abruzzo at Grossmont High in El Cajon, Calif. ... Had his 2020 senior season reduced to just 7 games because of the COVID pandemic ... As a 2019 junior, batted .309 (17-for-55) with 4 doubles, 2 triples and 1 home run for the 18-14 Foothillers, who advanced to the fourth round of the CIF San Diego Section Division I playoffs.

PERSONAL:  Born Feb. 13, 2002, in Downey, Calif. ... Parents are Jesus and Yanai Yanez ... Has a younger sister ... Majoring in Business Management ... Plays the guitar ... Hopes to join the military when his baseball-playing days are done.
