Let Him Cook

Elijah Cook homers twice against #5 Westmont.

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – After yesterday's doubleheader being postponed due to inclement weather, Azusa Pacific fell to #5 Westmont in Saturday's two game slate at Russ Carr Field.

Game 1
The opening matchup saw the Warriors establish a solid five-run advantage off of a two-run homer in the first inning and a three-run shot to left field.

After the early outburst, both bats in each dugout remained silent until Jacob Hayes was able to score in the top of the sixth off a wild pitch that saw Danny Yanez end up in scoring position as well. Elijah Cook then swung momentum further in favor of them with a moonshot over the centerfield fence to bring APU within two runs.

Westmont responded with a run of their own in the bottom frame, but the Cougars kept fighting as they made it a 6-5 ballgame off of RBI's from Elijah Morgan and Hayes.

However the home team was able to match its thundering offense and then some with a three-run bottom of the seventh to create a four-run cushion that they rode to a 9-5 victory.

Game 2
In the ensuing action, it was once again Westmont striking first, plating four unanswered runs over through the first four innings.

However in the top of the fifth, Cook cut the lead in half as he went yard for the second time with a two-run homer to make it a 4-2 game.

The Warriors offered a rebuttal in their next trip to plate in the form of seven runs that helped them cruise to a 11-2 victory.
