2025 Junior Season: A key component of the relief corps, Frey played a vital role in several marquee victories. He was instrumental in a dramatic 9-6 walk-off win against
No. 23 Point Loma, bridging the middle innings to keep the Cougars within striking distance. He also helped secure a 7-2 win over
Concordia by closing out the late innings effectively.
2024 Sophomore Season: Made 6 relief appearances, tallying 13.2 innings of work with 13 strikeouts. His season was highlighted by a dominant 3-inning shutout performance against Hawaii-Hilo, where he struck out five to earn the win. He also threw 2.2 innings of no-hit relief against Cal State LA.
2023 Freshman Season: Named Academic All-PacWest. Appeared in 11 games (3 starts), recording a 3.91 ERA with 20 strikeouts in 25.1 innings. Earned his first collegiate win with a career-high 4.0 innings against Hawaii Pacific and notched a season-high 4 strikeouts in a victory at Biola.

Joey Frey joins the Cougars' pitching staff as a left-handed specialist from Los Angeles. A standout performer at Loyola High School under Head Coach Sean Buller, Frey has transitioned into a reliable arm for the Azusa Pacific bullpen, consistently providing high-leverage innings.
High School Accolades: Led Loyola to a 17-3-1 record as a senior, posting a 2.33 ERA. His prep career was headlined by a masterpiece against Alemany, where he struck out 13 batters in a 6-inning, 5-hit shutout.
Personal: Born on October 30, 2003, Joey is the son of Rich Frey and Wendy Appleby. A dedicated student-athlete, he is pursuing a degree in Business Management. He chose Azusa Pacific for its balance of competitive athletics and academic excellence.
