When it Rains, it Pours

Azusa Pacific and Biola combine for 45 runs in Friday's doubleheader.

LA MIRADA, Calif. – In a thrilling Cornerstone Cup doubleheader at Eagles Diamond, Azusa Pacific and Biola battled in a pair of high-scoring, momentum-swinging contests that showcased explosive offenses and dramatic finishes. The Cougars suffered a heartbreaking 16-15 loss in Game 1, surrendering an eight-run lead in the eighth inning as Biola staged a stunning comeback. However, Azusa Pacific responded in Game 2 with a resilient 8-6 victory, using timely home runs and strong relief pitching to even the series.

Game 1
Azusa Pacific stormed ahead in the third inning, plating four runs, including a two-run homer by Antonio Lujan and a solo shot from Allan Camarillo. However, Biola (12-12, 9-8 PacWest) answered quickly, with Isaiah Leon launching a two-run homer of his own to keep the game close.
The Cougars added three runs in the sixth, taking a 7-5 lead thanks to clutch hitting from Jacob Freer and a sacrifice fly by Camarillo. But the Eagles responded again, scoring three in the bottom of the frame to reclaim an 8-7 lead.
They appeared to take control in the seventh and eighth innings, with Danny Yanez smashing a two-run homer and Mikey Easter adding a solo shot to extend the lead to 15-8. But Biola's offense erupted for an eight-run eighth inning, highlighted by Noah Ruiz's three-run triple and a James Whitman grand slam, swinging the momentum in their favor.
In the ninth, it threatened, loading the bases with two outs, but Biola's Kyle Osterhage closed the door, earning the save to secure the one-run victory.

Game 2
After falling behind 2-0 in the second inning , Azusa Pacific responded in the third with a momentum-shifting four-run inning. Danny Yanez crushed a three-run homer to right center, following an RBI double from Jacob Hayes, giving the Cougars a 4-2 lead.
Biola answered immediately, scoring three runs in the bottom of the third, highlighted by a solo home run from Luke Caruso, to regain a 5-4 advantage. The Eagles added another run in the fourth, extending their lead to 6-4.
The game turned in the sixth inning when Elijah Morgan blasted a three-run home run to left field, putting it back on top 7-6. A Biola error allowed Antonio Lujan to score an insurance run, pushing the lead to 8-6.
Closer Joel Tornero shut the door in the seventh, earning his fifth save of the season by retiring the final three Biola batters to secure the win.
