AZUSA, CALIF. -- Azusa Pacific, looking refreshed and rested after 11 days without a game, took advantage of fresh legs and a deep bench to defeat Bethany,90-77,in a nonconference game in Azusa Saturday night.
Senior forward Kevin Daley was one assist short of a triple-double, scoring a game-high 19 with 10 rebounds and 9 assists to pace the Cougars to their seventh straight win.
The Cougars took a 49-34 halftime lead, thanks to Damian Raibon's 12 first-half points. Raibon finished with season-high tying 14 points and keyed a 12-3 first-half run by nailing back-to-back 3-point baskets less than a minute apart to put the Cougars up 33-19 with9:25 left in the first half.
Five Cougars scored in double figures, and Azusa Pacific held Bethany to a 38% shooting percentage from the field. Jerome Joseph tallied 13 points, and Isamu Nichols added 10 points and 6 assists.
The Cougars dominated the boards, out-rebounding Bethany 53-32. K.C. Tanner and Scott Blake came off the bench to grab 7 rebounds apiece, and Tanner added a season-high 11 points.
Gary Dredge gave the Cougars their largest lead with a short jumper that put Azusa Pacific up 85-57 with 4:45 to play. Dredge also snagged 6 offensive rebounds and finished with 8 rebounds for the game.
With the win, Azusa Pacific improves to 7-1, while Bethany drops to 1-11.
