Ellis Closes Out Career With Academic All-American Honor

Weston Ellis was selected to the CoSIDA Academic All-American Third Team.

Weston Ellis has been named an Academic All-American, as he was selected to the CoSIDA Academic All-American Third Team this week. Ellis closed out his career at Azusa Pacific with an outstanding showing both in the classroom and in competition during the 2021-22 academic year.

Academically, Ellis posted a cumulative GPA of 3.83. After completing his undergraduate degree in Applied Exercise Science, Ellis has been working on a Master's in Physical Education, while also seeking to obtain a Single Subject Teaching Credential.

In competition this spring, Ellis led the Cougars to the program's sixth-consecutive PacWest title, and he also earned himself a spot at National in the discus. At the PacWest Championships, Ellis was the individual conference champion in both the discus and hammer, and he also finished third in the shot put. His efforts at the Championships scored 26 points towards the Cougars' eventual conference record breaking total of 313 points, and he was named the Men's Field Athlete of the Meet. A few weeks later at Nationals, Ellis placed 12th in the discus, which earned him distinction as a USTFCCCA Second Team All-American.

"This honor is a fantastic end to Weston's collegiate career," said head coach Jack Hoyt, "I saw him make great strides over the past four years in both the classroom and at the track. He is an inspiration toward his teammates and he will be greatly missed next year."
