FRESNO, Calif. — Azusa Pacific Track & Field is off to a strong start at the 2025 PacWest Championships, as both the men's and women's teams position themselves well in pursuit of a ninth consecutive conference title.
Day one saw the Cougars shine both on the track and in the field. The women brought home two individual titles, with
Jessica Kampman winning the
PacWest Women's 3,000m Steeplechase (10:54.86) and
Hannah Richardson claiming the
PacWest Women's Hammer Throw crown (51.57m). In the women's javelin,
Luisa Fischer shattered the PacWest Championship meet record—previously held by APU alum Allison Updike (2016)—with a throw of
50.14m to secure another conference title.
On the men's side,
Avery Erickson was the
PacWest runner-up in the 3,000m Steeplechase (9:21.16), while
Jared Wright clocked 30:32.94 to take
third place in the men's 10,000m. In the field,
Nicholas Jordan finished as the
runner-up in men's pole vault (4.66m), and
Lincoln Krog earned
third in the men's long jump (7.22m).
Also in the women's field events,
Esther Conde-Turpin also added a
runner-up finish in the long jump (6.06m).
The Cougars were dominant across preliminary rounds, qualifying athletes across multiple events for Saturday's finals:
- In the Men's 1500m, Felix Perrier, Eric Perez, and Adam King advanced to the 12-man final.
- In the Women's 100m Hurdles, both Esther Conde-Turpin and Luisa Fischer secured spots in the final.
- In the Men's 110m Hurdles, Lincoln Krog and Max Franklin moved on to Saturday's final.
- In the Women's 400m, Alayna Verner and Kiayra Holmes advanced to the final, while Maxime Wassmer and Isaac Shires did the same on the men's side.
- In the sprints, Trinity Miller, Nevaeh Williams, and Ashanti Perkins qualified for the Women's 100m final, with Dominic Gonzalez-Shelmire running a strong 10.54 to advance on the men's side.
- In the Women's 800m, school record-holder Olivia Alexandre posted the second-fastest qualifying time to reach the final, while Erick Leal and Adam King made the Men's 800m final.
- Mac Franklin advanced to the Men's 400m Hurdles final.
- In the Women's 200m, Miller, Williams, and Verner again moved through to Saturday's final. Gonzalez-Shelmire also qualified for the men's 200m final with a strong time of 21.10.
The Cougars will return to action Saturday for the final day of the PacWest Championships, aiming to close out a historic ninth-straight conference sweep.
