AZUSA, Calif. -- Shannon Coe goal less than 4 minutes into overtime lifted the NAIA's No. 2-ranked Azusa Pacific to a 1-0 victory over visiting Cal Poly Pomona in a non-conference women's soccer match Tuesday in Azusa.
The win is the Cougars' second straight over Cal Poly and improves them to 3-0 on the season. Cal Poly drops to 0-4.
After getting outplayed in the first 45 minutes, the Cougars rebounded to control most of the play in the second half. They generated several scoring chances, out-shooting the Broncos 16-11 for the match (11-5 on goal), but none were able to hit paydirt in regulation.
Azusa Pacific received the only corner kick in overtime at the 3:47 mark of the extra time. All-American Stephanie Bays took the kick from the right side and served it into the box. Freshman Randie Massro climbed the ladder and re-directed the ball to a waiting Coe, who settled it on her right foot and calmly found the upper right corner of the frame for the game-winner.
Freshman Jill Colfer combined with starter Tiffany Mitchell to post the Cougars' third straight shutout to open the season. Mitchell started the game in net but left near the end of the first half with an injury.
The goal is Coe's second of the season.
