AZUSA, CALIF. -- The NAIA's No. 11-ranked Azusa Pacific used strong pitching performances to sweep Claremont-Scripps at Northside Park.
Jodi Miller threw her fourth shutout of the season in the first game, allowing just 2 hits and striking out 4. Alisa Arrigoni's 2-run single with 1 out in the bottom of the fourth inning broke open a scoreless tie, and the Cougars added 2 insurance runs in the fifth inning. Cristal Brown went 3-for-3 with 2 stolen bases to pace the Cougar offense.
In the nightcap, Mandy Dorow needed just 2 more outs to record her first career no-hitter, but Kelly France's bloop single to shallow left field gave the Athenas their only hit of the game with one out in the top of the seventh. Lorna Lyttle hit her second home run of the season, slamming a 2-2 pitch to straightaway center with 1 out in the bottom of the second inning.
