THIS YEAR: Probably Azusa Pacific's top newcomer, junior transfer Cristal Brown will anchor the Cougar infield at shortstop . . . Should bat leadoff . . . Finds ways to get on base . . . Dangerous on the base paths . . . Should make a push for repeat All-GSAC honors.

POINT LOMA: As a 1999 sophomore, led Point Loma to a second-place finish in the GSAC with a 15-5 conference record . . . Set Point Loma single-season records for runs (43) and hits (65) . . . Named to All-GSAC team as a utility player after batting .389 with 18 RBIs, 6 doubles, 2 triples, 2 HRs, and 23 stolen bases in 51 games . . . Voted best offensive player for the 33-19 Crusaders.

BAKERSFIELD COLLEGE: Played 1 season at Bakersfield (Calif.) Community College, where as a 1998 freshman, was named team MVP and Western State Conference Player of the Year . . . In 32 games, batted .461 with 30 runs, 21 RBI, 6 triples and a school-record 32 stolen bases . . . Led team to the Western State Conference championship with a 12-3 conference record.

HIGH SCHOOL: Prepped at North High in Bakersfield, Calif., from which she graduated in 1996 . . . As a senior, led team to the Southwest Yosemite League championship with a perfect 8-0 league record . . . Named to all-state, all-area, and all-league first teams . . . Batted .415 with 43 runs and 47 stolen bases in 1996 . . . As a 1995 junior, named best offensive player and all-league first team.

PERSONAL: Born June 24, 1978, in El Paso, Texas . . . Is 1 of 3 children . . . Teaches children's Sunday school . . . Majoring in social science and would like to be a high school teacher and softball coach.
