TEMPE, Ariz. – Water polo's long and winding road schedule took them to the Sun Devil Classic Tournament hosted by Arizona State University on Saturday, where they once again took care of business against La Verne 17-4, before downing Long Island 15-9 to run their win streak to seven.

Game One:  Azusa Pacific 17, La Verne 4

With the two sides squaring off for the third time this season, the Leopards kept it close for the first quarter before Azusa Pacific pulled away.  Bailey Hollick scored for the Cougars on their first shot of the game and while it was only 3-2 at the end of the first quarter, Azusa Pacific never trailed.  The Cougars put the game away largely before halftime, getting goals from five different players in a 5-0 second quarter, then pouring on seven more in the third to make it 15-2.

Evelyne Prado led the way with four goals for the Cougars.  Kori Cunningham added a hat trick and two steals, while Hollick, Annabelle Gould, Jessie Nelson, and Montana George each found the back of the net twice.  The Cougars made eight steals as a team, killed off all four power plays they allowed in the game, and outshot the Leopards 35-16 for the game.  Kayla Tweed was credited with four saves in net for the win.  Across three meetings this season, Azusa Pacific has outscored La Verne 50-12.

Game Two:  Azusa Pacific 15, Long Island 9

The battle with the Sharks saw three ties in the opening quarter, including the Cougars' first power play goal of the day, courtesy of George. Audrey Dexter gave the Cougars their first lead of the game and the Cougars held on for a 4-3 edge after the first quarter.  Back-to-back goals from Dexter midway through the second gave Azusa Pacific a 7-4 lead and they would maintain that three-goal edge into intermission.

In a defensive-minded third quarter, the Cougars twice stretched their lead to four, and twice the Sharks answered.  With time running out, keeper Daniela Herrero Miralles made a save and threw a prayer the length of the pool.  It was answered with a goal to give the Cougars an 11-7 lead heading into the fourth.  Azusa Pacific then put the game away with four consecutive goals in the middle of the final quarter to secure their second consecutive win over Long Island.  Hollick scored four goals, to go with hat tricks from both Dexter and Nelson, while Prado added a goal and four assists.  In net, besides her goal, Herrero Miralles added 14 saves and 6 steals.

Up Next:  The Cougars (10-3) will wrap up the Sun Devil Classic with a rare Sunday double feature. They will get their first look at Biola at 11:30 a.m. MST (10:30 Pacific) before facing the host Sun Devils at 2:00 p.m. (1:00 PST).
