AZUSA, Calif. - Azusa Pacific collected their 17th consecutive victory today, defeating the Warriors 6-1 at home. The Cougars took both matches from Westmont this season, currently holding a 38-1 record against the Warriors which dates back to 1998. Azusa Pacific is also a perfect 21-0 at the Munson & Bavougian Tennis Complex when hosting previous GNAC foe from Santa Barbara.Â
How it Happened: The Cougars collected their 12th doubles point of the season to get things going. Elias Emilio Walter and Miha Velicki earned a 6-4 victory at No. 1 before Soeren Grandke and Constantin Barth also earned a 6-4 victory at No. 3, giving Azusa Pacific a 1-0 lead.Â
Barth had quick work on No. 5, winning in straight sets 6-0, 6-0 before Walter ran to another straight set win at No. 1, 6-1, 6-2.Â
In straight set fashion once again, Grandke clinched the match for the Cougars at No. 3, winning 6-3, 6-2. Max Schmidhauser came up with another point for Azusa Pacific at No. 6, earning the Cougars fourth straight set victory of the day, 6-1, 6-1.Â
Things got interesting after Azusa Pacific was up 5-0. Velicki found himself down after dropping the first set 4-6 on No. 2. Velicki came back to win the second set 6-2. He then went on to win the super tiebreak 13-11 to give the Cougars a 6-0 lead.Â

Westmont was able to take one point from the Cougars via super tie break on No. 4 to end the match, but the damage was already done as Azusa Pacific took the match via a final score of 6-1.Â
By the Numbers: The Cougars are currently ranked #15 in the country according to the latest ITA rankings, while Walter and Velicki rank 23rd in doubles. Walter also ranks 49th in singles as he is an impressive 17-0 at No. 1 and No. 2. Barth is also undefeated in singles, having a 13-0 record seeing action at No. 3, No 5 and No. 6., and Schmidhauser is 6-0 on the season at No. 5 and No. 6. Velicki also has double-digit wins in singles with 15 and he and Walter hold a 12-2 record at doubles No. 1 with a seven set winning streak in tact.Â
Up Next: The match against Point Loma originally scheduled for this Saturday, March 30th has been postponed to a later date due to rainy weather in the forecast. Azusa Pacific will for sure be back in action on Wednesday, April 3rd when they host Biola for a Cornerstone Cup match starting at 2:30 p.m.
