AZUSA, Calif. – Azusa Pacific won 4-2 against Washington University on Monday afternoon. With the victory, the Cougars remain undefeated this season with an 11-0 overall.
The teams played singles first then planned to play doubles, however, the Cougars were able to clinch the match with four wins at No. 3, No. 5, No. 2, and No. 1 singles.
Constantin Barth, who still remains unbeaten this season, earned the first point for the Cougars with a 6-0, 6-3 win at No. 3 singles.
Although WashU took the next point at No. 6 singles, Max Schmidhauser responded with a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 5 singles over Scott Yamamoto.
The Cougars then dropped a close battle at No. 4 singles as WashU tied the match back up at 2-2. However, they were able to regain momentum and clinch back-to-back three-set matches at No. 2 and No. 1 singles.
Playing at No. 2 singles for the first time this season, Soeren Grandke earned a 5-7, 6-2, 6-4 win over Colin Scruggs. It was Grandke's 11th consecutive singles win, having only dropped his first singles match of the season.
Clinching the match for the Cougars, Elias Emilio Walter fought back with a 4-6,6-3, 6-3 win to remain undefeated this season.
