Opening Weekend

Azusa Pacific opened its season on Thursday, where three Cougars secured spots on the national qualifying list.

RENO, Nev. - Azusa Pacific opened up its track season on Thursday at the Silver State Invitational and Multis, hosted by the University of Nevada. On day one of the three-day meet, three Cougars achieved provisional marks in the pentathlon, led by junior Esther-Conde Turpin.

Conde-Turpin led the trio of Cougars in the pentathlon, scoring 4258 points to secure the overall victory and earn a spot on the national qualifying list. Her day was highlighted by several additional provisional marks, including an 8.47 mark in the 60-meter hurdles, a 1.78m (5'10") clearance in the high jump, and a 5.75m (18'10½") leap in the long jump. Conde-Turpin also recorded a 13.13m (43'1") throw in the shot put and closed the competition with a 2:23.89 in the 800m.

Luisa Fischer followed with a second-place finish, tallying 3949 points to also secure a spot on the national qualifying list. Fischer's performance was highlighted by a 1.75m (5'8¾") clearance in the high jump, which also met the provisional standard in that event. On her way to 3949, she threw 13.23m (43'5") in the shot put, leapt 5.46m (17'11") in the long jump, ran 9.13 in the 60-meter hurdles, and clocked 2:27.94 in the 800m.

Freshman Emma Hane rounded out the trio, scoring 3415 points to achieve her first collegiate provisional mark. Her marks included running 9.47 in the 60-meter hurdles, a 1.54m (5'0½") clearance in the high jump, an 11.34m (37'2½") throw in the shot put, a 5.29m (17'4¼") leap in the long jump, and a 2:31.28 finish in the 800m.

Meanwhile, on the men's side, Lincoln Krog concluded day one of the heptathlon sitting in first place with 2979 points after the first four events. Krog started his day clocking 7.25 in the 60-meter dash, followed by a 6.76m (22'2¼") long jump effort. He threw 13.45m (44'1½") in the shot put and cleared 1.92m (6'3½") in the high jump to round out the opening day of competition. With two events remaining on Friday, Krog leads a field of five by over 100 points.
