Four Cougars Earn All-Conference Honors

Representing Azusa Pacific Men’s Soccer, Luis Solis earned All-PacWest Second Team honors, while Gabriel Oropeza, Fritz Oestreicher, and Andrew Gomez earned All-PacWest Third Team distinctions.

Azusa Pacific Men's soccer had four players named All-PacWest after the conclusion of the 2024 season. Luis Solis was named to the Second Team, Gabriel Oropeza, Fritz Oestreicher, and Andrew Gomez earned Third Team honors.

In his first season back with the Cougars after a year at Cal State Fullerton, Solis earned his first All-PacWest distinction. The junior midfielder started in all 16 matches tallying 1,185 minutes total while recording four goals and three assists for 11 points total. He was critical to the offense this season as he provided a goal in a 1-1 draw against Point Loma, and a goal in 2-1 defeat over Westmont.

Gabriel Oropeza earned his second consecutive All-PacWest Third Team honor after recording four goals and four assists to finish the season with 12 total points. The senior midfielder started in all 16 games, totaling 1077 minutes at both the 10 and the 6. Contributing heavily to creating offense for the Cougars, he had a goal and an assist in 2-0 defeat over Biola and also tallied a goal and two assists in 7-1 win over Chaminade.

Playing in his final season at Azusa Pacific, Fritz Oestreicher earned his fourth All-PacWest honor, landing himself a spot on the Third Team. Oestreicher has been a monumental aspect to the Cougars' back line for the last four years. He started in all 16 matches this season, logging a total of 1,365 minutes, the second-highest on the team. The senior captain led the team to four clean sheets this season, while also contributing four shots.

Rounding out the Cougars' regular season awards, Andrew Gomez earned his first All-PacWest nomination after a career-best campaign. His seven goals in Conference play tied him for fourth-most in the PacWest, while also contributing one assist this season. Gomez solidified his status as a constant threat to defenses across the conference, posting two braces in the final two weeks of the season.

While Solis and Gomez are set to return for their final season, Oropeza and Oestreicher are among the 12 graduating seniors who have concluded their careers at Azusa Pacific. Next year, the Cougars will look to improve upon their 2024 season, which featured a 5-9-2 overall record, including a 4-5-2 mark in PacWest play.
