Cougars close out their season with a 5-2 defeat at Jessup

Rocklin, Calif. – Azusa Pacific wrapped up their 2024 season with a 5-2 loss to Jessup. Andrew Gomez and Luis Solis each scored in the second half as the Cougars looked to rally back from an early deficit.

How it Happened: Jessup started strong, getting on the board in the 13th minute with a shot that found its way to the back of the Cougar's net. Just three minutes later, the Warriors scored again, doubling their lead to 2-0. The Cougars responded by upping their attack, taking five shots before halftime as they worked to cut into the deficit. Despite creating a few solid chances, Azusa Pacific went into the break scoreless.

The second half brought more action as both teams found the net. Jessup added a third goal in the 56th minute, but the Cougars quickly responded. In the 57th minute, Gavin Chagnon sent a precise pass over Jessup's back line, finding Andrew Gomez, who sent his shot over the Warriors goalkeeper's head to get the Cougars on the board at 3-1.

Jessup answered back, converting a penalty kick in the 61st minute and then adding a fifth goal in the 71st, stretching their lead to 5-1. Azusa Pacific continued to press forward, and its efforts paid off in the final minute of the match. Luis Solis received a quick pass from Valour Ladomi inside the box and scored, giving the Cougars their second goal of the game as the clock wound down.
