All Is Set

No. 17 Azusa Pacific won every set in a 7-0 defeat of Fresno Pacific.

AZUSA, Calif. - No. 17 Azusa Pacific is 2-0 to start the season, after the Cougars swept visiting Fresno Pacific by a 7-0 score on Wednesday morning.

The match started with a pair of 6-2 victories for Azusa Pacific in doubles. At No. 2, Elias Emilio Walter and Miha Velicki won their second match of the year, and the No. 1 partnership of Leyton Bohren and Marko Nikoliuk clinched the doubles point to give the Cougars the early 1-0 lead.

Azusa Pacific did not drop a set in singles. Vili Bonev delivered the first singles win of the contest at No. 5, as the true freshman won his first set 6-2, followed by a 6-1 win in the second frame. The match marked Bonev's first singles matchup as a Cougar. Nikoliuk would bring the match score to 3-0, winning at No. 3 (6-3, 6-1) for the first victory of his Azusa Pacific career.

Elias Emilio Walter, who is the #31 singles player in the nation, beat Brodie Sodersten for the match-clinching point at No. 2. Walter cruised to a 6-1 first set win, and while Sodersten was able to make it a bit more interesting in the second set, Walter would still triumph 6-4. Dating back to last March, Walter has now gone unbeaten in his last 14 matches.

Miha Velicki at No. 4 (6-3. 6-1), Leyton Bohren at No. 1 (6-4, 6-3) and Brody Bohren at No. 6 (6-3, 6-3) closed out the match with straight-set wins. Leyton Bohren has now won 36 matches in his Azusa Pacific career.
