Biography

THIS YEAR: Only one player in PacWest history has been a four-time All-PacWest selection and a four-time PacWest Champion, but Velicki has a chance to do the same along with his doubles partner Elias Emilio Walter. The Cougars’ No. 1 doubles team has played 56 sets together in team matches, which is the third-most in program history, winning three quarters of those sets. Velicki’s success hasn’t been limited to doubles though after he earned All-PacWest honors in singles for the first time during his junior season. As a veteran that has seen success in both singles and doubles, Velicki will be a critical piece to the Cougars’ quest to defend their PacWest title.
 
2024: Earned First-Team All-PacWest honors in both singles and doubles, being named to the doubles all-conference list for the third time in his career… Recorded a 9-8 record in singles as a junior, playing No. 1 singles in nine of the matches… Went 16-4 at No. 1 doubles in his third season playing with Elias Emilio Walter… Won the ITA Fall West Regional doubles title… Finished the season ranked No. 28 in doubles in NCAA Division II… Won all three of his doubles sets at the PacWest Championships, beating MSU Denver, Concordia and then Hawai`i Pacific’s Jakub Beran and Mile Matic, 7-5… Won 6-3, 6-4 at No. 2 singles against Hawai`i Pacific’s Jim Walder on March 9 to help preserve the Cougars’ undefeated record… Defeated two No. 1 players in the PacWest, winning against Fresno Pacific and Colorado Mesa.
 
2023: Named to the Third Team All-PacWest in doubles… Earned Academic All-PacWest honors… ITA Scholar Athlete… Notched a 13-8 mark in singles, playing most of the season at the No. 4 position… In doubles, tallied an 11-7 record, playing all but one set with Elias Emilio Walter… Went on a four-match winning streak in singles in February with wins over Hawai`i Hilo, Point Loma, UC Riverside, and Biola… Tallied a 4-1 record between singles and doubles at the PacWest Championships, including a critical 6-4, 7-6(3) win at No. 4 singles over Point Loma’s Andrew Suver to tie the match in the 4-3 semifinal victory.
 
2022: Selected to the Third Team All-PacWest for doubles… Named to the Academic All-PacWest Team… ITA Scholar Athlete… Went 13-8 in singles during his freshman campaign, playing all over the lineup, but especially at the No. 5 position… Had a 15-4 doubles record, including a 15-3 mark at No. 2 doubles with Elias Emilio Walter… Won his only match at No. 1 singles against Washington University, winning 6-7(5), 6-2, 6-4 in Hawai`i… Defeated Alejandro Castaneda from Point Loma for his first PacWest Championships singles win… Went 2-0 in doubles at the PacWest Championships and then won his No. 2 doubles set against Biola in the NCAA West Regional.
 
HIGH SCHOOL: Attended Prva Gimnazija Maribor and graduated in 2019… Played at Teniski Klub Branik Maribor for coach Marko Tkalec for 12 years.
 
PERSONAL: Born on April 29, 2000 in Maribor to Stanislav and Sabina Velicki… Has one younger sister… Plays right-handed with a two-handed backhand… Studying finance… Enjoys country music and watching movies.
