Azusa Pacific track & field started its 2023 outdoor season on Saturday.

CLAREMONT, Calif. - The outdoor season began for Azusa Pacific track & field this weekend, as the Cougars had athletes compete in the Pomona-Pitzer All Comers meet on Saturday. The day was highlighted by a pair of provisional performances, achieved by Jaylah Walker in the women's 200, and Logan Peyton in the men's javelin.

Walker ran a time of 24.21 seconds to win the event and meet the provisional qualifying standard in her first race of the season. Walker's time is her fastest outdoor 200 since 2021, as she has only ran the race a handful of times over the past two seasons.

Peyton, who was the PacWest runner-up in the javelin last season, started his 2023 season off with a provisional distance of 59.13m (194'), which made him the event winner on the day. Peyton achieved the distance on his third attempt of the day, as he bounced back from a fault on his first attempt, and then surpassed his second effort of 58.46m.

Including Walker's 200 victory, the women's team had four first-place finishes on the day. Abigail Keane tied for first in the pole vault with a personal-best height of 3.50m (11' 5 ¾"), which she cleared on her third and final attempt at the height. Freshman Hannah Richardson opened her collegiate career by winning the shot put, reaching a distance of 12.61m (41' 4 ½"). Molly Olson, a Second Team All-American in the javelin last spring, started her season off with a first-place finish on a throw of 40.86m (134' 1") on her second attempt of the day.
