AZUSA, Calif.--On Saturday afternoon, No. 22 Azusa Pacific picked up its sixth sweep of the season with a 7-0 win over Point Loma.
The Cougars have won all five of the matches over a two week span, and advance to a 13-6 overall record following their last home game of the regular season. They also finished with a 10-3 record on their home court.
In Doubles, Nora Liga and
Madison Kane set the stage with a 6-0 shutout win at No. 1.
Following a loss on Court No. 2,
Katherine Nguyen and
Carolyn Brooner picked up a 6-2 win on Court No. 3 to collect the first point of the match for the Cougars.
In Singles, Azusa Pacific picked up the remaining six points with ease.
Nguyen collected the first win (6-2, 6-1) on Court No. 6, followed by
April Wong (6-3, 6-2) on Court No. 3.
Madison Kane picked up the match-clinching win (6-3, 6-3), furthering her overall record to 11-3 after holding it down on Court No. 2 all season.
Recently ranked at No. 4 in the nation in Singles, Liga improved her individual record to 17-1 with a straight-set win (6-2, 7-5) over at No. 1.
Following Liga,
Audrey Stewart won in straight sets on Court No. 5 (6-3, 7-6), and Brooner captured the final point of the match after she bounced back from a first set loss to win in a super tie break (2-6, 6-3, 11-9).
Up Next: On Wednesday, the Cougars will travel to Los Angeles to face off against Cal State Los Angeles. The match is scheduled to start at 1:30pm.
The Cougars will play two more games next week before the PacWest Tournament which will take place in Surprise, Arizona this year.
