Biography
THIS YEAR: Going into her senior season, Nguyen has a chance to make her mark on the Cougar record books. With 47 career singles wins, Nguyen is just three wins away from becoming the 13th player in program history to collect 50 wins, joining her teammates Madison Kane and April Wong. Nguyen is 24 wins away from breaking the all-time record and the Cougars have 21 matches on the regular season schedule, meaning the Cougars will have to make a postseason run for her to have a chance at the 17-year-old record. Nguyen’s career singles winning percentage of .783 is currently the second-best in Cougar history.

2024: Earned the NCAA Elite 90 Academic Recognition Award, which is given to the student-athlete with the highest GPA at each of the NCAA's 90 championship events across all sports and divisions... Named to the Academic All-PacWest Team with a 4.0 GPA in finance… Tallied a 12-5 singles record as a junior, playing primarily at No. 5 singles… Recorded her best season in doubles with a 14-5 record… Went 14-4 with Shannele Lopez as the Cougars put together one of their strongest doubles seasons ever… Twice defeated Biola’s Alex Mann, who was regionally ranked, winning both matches by the same score 6-1, 6-3… Helped Azusa Pacific return to the PacWest Championship match for the third time in her career and qualify for the NCAA National Championships.

2023: Academic All-PacWest honoree with a 4.0 GPA… Had an 18-4 record in singles, which included a 23-match winning streak that spanned back to her freshman season… Played doubles primarily with Katia Betancourt and went 3-5 on the season… Started the season 18-2 in singles including a 2-6, 6-3, 10-7 win over Concordia’s Alicia Da Re… Helped the Cougars reach the PacWest Championship match and qualify for the NCAA National Championships in her sophomore season.

2022: Earned a spot on the Academic All-PacWest Team with a 4.0 GPA… Went 17-4 in singles and finished the year on a 14-match winning streak for a breakout freshman campaign… Recorded a 7-4 record in doubles, playing primarily with Carolyn Brooner as the pair won their first seven sets together at No. 3 doubles… On March 12, she defeated Washburn’s Svea Crohn 6-1, 6-3, starting a 14-match winning streak during which she dropped only two sets… Won a thriller at No. 5 singles against Colorado Mesa’s Macy Richards, 7-6, 5-7, 10-7… Earned a 6-4, 6-1 win at the PacWest Championship match against Hawai`i Pacific’s Rikona Murakami, giving Azusa Pacific a 4-3 win in the title match.

HIGH SCHOOL: Nguyen was homeschooled through Elite Academic Academy in high school and graduated in 2021… She was a three-star recruit according to Tennis Recruiting and reached a ranking of 222 in the nation in 2020.

PERSONAL: Born on August 26, 2003, to Nick and Lynda Nguyen in Glendora, Calif… Has one younger brother, Ethan, and two younger sisters, Julianne and Isabelle… Julianne plays women’s tennis at Fordham University, where she was the A-10 Doubles Champion and qualified for ITA Masters… Isabelle reached the 12s semifinals in the Easter Bowl and is ranked No. 5 in the USA for her age group… Tennis recruiting ranks Isabelle as No. 8 in the country and No. 3 in California for the class of 2030… Katherine is studying Finance with a minor in Pre-Law… Desires to work as a corporate lawyer after graduation… Primary hobby is reading.
