PITTSBURG, Kansas - Azusa Pacific track & field wrapped up its competition at the NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field National Championships on Saturday, and after two days of competition, the women's team earned their best indoor finish in the NCAA era, finishing in third place finish behind a total of 40 points scored across seven different events.

Following All-American performances on Friday by Chin Agina (high jump) and Sara Wagenveld (pole vault) that scored 12 points, the Cougars tallied 28 points on Saturday. Jaylah Walker contributed 16 of those points via All-American efforts in three individual events, as well as she ran the third leg for Azusa Pacific's All-American 4x400 relay team that achieved an All-American worthy time and added six points with a third place finish.

Walker opened her day in the 60 hurdles, finishing fifth and running a time of 8.54 seconds. About an hour later, Walker was back on the track in the 400, and she delivered a lifetime best performance of 54.44 seconds to take third and add six more points to the team total. In her final individual event of the meet, the 200, Walker once again scored six points on a third-place finish, crossing the line at 24.03 seconds.

Mechaela Hyacinth also scored six points for the Cougars, placing third in the 60m with an All-American time of 7.43 seconds.

Heading into the final event of the meet, the 4x400 relay, Azusa Pacific sat in fourth place with a score of 34 points. Seeking to move up in the team standings, the Cougars looked to the relay team of Alayna Verner, Marian Ledesma, Walker, and Kiayra Holmes to post a time that would impact the team's overall score. The quartet would rise to the occasion, particularly behind two outstanding efforts in the final two legs of the race. Walker ran the third leg for Azusa Pacific, as she closed down an early deficit to set up Holmes for the final leg. Holmes took the baton and pulled away early from the rest of the heat three competitors, and while a few of her opponents looked to close some ground, Holmes maintained her focus and stride to cross the line at 3:43.73 to win the heat, which proved to be the third-best time of the event overall to add another six points that moved the Cougars up into the third spot on the overall podium. The relay team's time of 3:43.73 was their fastest time of the season.

Seven different athletes on the women's side were distinguished as All-Americans over the two days of action at Nationals, which is an NCAA-era program record for most indoor All-Americans.

On the men's side, Jermel Jones II, who became the NCAA Division II Long Jump National Champion on Friday, added another trophy on Saturday following his efforts in the triple jump. Jones II leaped a lifetime best distance of 15.39m (50' 6"), which earned him an eighth-place finish in the event and he was distinguished as an All-American.

Aaron Worrell wrapped up competition in the men's heptathlon on Saturday, while Alysa Henry competed in the women's pentathlon. For Worrell, he finished 12th with a score of 5,100 points, while Henry was the 10th place finisher in her competition at 3,657 points. In the men's high jump, Raymon Harper competed for Azusa Pacific, and he cleared a height of 2.08m (6' 9 ¾") which placed him No. 11 in the event.
Up Next: With the indoor season now wrapped up, the Cougars will turn their attention towards the outdoor season.
