THIS YEAR: In just a 20-meet collegiate career, sophomore Chin Agina has already established herself as one of the finest high jumpers in Azusa Pacific’s storied track & field history … Has developed very well under the coaching of Jack Hoyt and is poised to push for NCAA All-America status … Is the reigning PacWest Conference high jump champion … Currently ranks third on Azusa Pacific’s all-time high jump list with a career-best leap of 5’ 8½”.
2020: Appeared in 6 meets during the 2020 campaign, clearing a career-best 5’ 8 ½” in late January at the Martin Luther King Invitational, hosted by the University of New Mexico, good enough to qualify for the NCAA Indoor Championships with the nation’s seventh-best effort of the season … Won the Colorado Mines Alumni Classic with a leap of 5’ 5¾” to open the season in early December.
2019: Became the first freshman ever to win the PacWest high jump championship, clearing 5’ 7¼”, the second best performance in conference history … Two weeks later, finished second at the Occidental Invitational with a season-best leap of 5’ 7¾” … Qualified for both the NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Championship Meets, finishing eighth at outdoors in Kingsville, Texas, with a jump of 5’ 6½”, and 12th at indoors in Pittsburg, Kan., with a mark of 5’ 4¼.”
HIGH SCHOOL: Competed 3 seasons in track & field for head coach Clay Manning at Sanger (Calif.) High … Was a 3-time California state medalist in the high jump and two-time team MVP … As a 2018 senior, finished fifth in the state meet with a season-best leap of 5’ 8” … At the County Metro Athletic Conference (CMAC) meet, won the high jump (5’ 2”) and finished second in the 100 (12.45) and triple jump (34’ 0”), and third in the 200 (25.90) … As a 2017 junior finished seventh in the high jump (5’ 7”) at the USATF Junior Outdoor Championships at Sacramento State … Was third in the state meet in Fresno with a jump of 5’ 8” … Earlier in the year, cleared a career-best 5’ 9” … During the season, had 7 jumps of 5’ 7” or better … Won the CIF Master’s title with a mark of 5’ 7” … At the CMAC Championship won the high jump (5’ 0”), long jump (personal-record 17’ 5’) and 100 (12.76), and finished second in the triple jump (34’ 7¾”) … As a 2016 sophomore finished sixth at the state meet with a jump of 5’ 5” … At the CMAC meet won the high jump (4’ 10”) and was second in the triple jump (36’ 6½”) … Also lettered two seasons in volleyball, leading the Apaches to over 45 victories before by-passing her senior season to focus on the high jump.
PERSONAL: Born Sept. 3, 2000, to Cornelius and Hyacintha Agina … Has 2 brothers (Kosi, Chidera) and 2 sisters (Sonachi, Chiazo) … Older sister, Sonachi, was a conference champion discus thrower at Sanger High … Younger brother Kosi plays football at Fresno State … Majoring in Kinesiology … Served on Sanger High’s ASB.
