Box Score AZUSA, Calif. - Women's tennis hosted Washburn University on Saturday morning and claimed a 4-1 victory. The matchup served as a homecoming for Washburn head coach Kirby Ronning. Ronning served as an assistant coach to the Azusa Pacific men's and women's tennis teams from 2016 through 2020.Â
The Ichabods took an early 1-0 lead in the match as they claimed the doubles point. The matchup on court No. 3 was decided first, as the Ichabods won via retirement. Washburn then secured the doubles point with a win at No. 2 by the score of 6-3. With that victory, the No. 1 matchup went unfinished.Â
The Cougars didn't fold and came back in the singles matchups. Eleonora Liga quickly shifted the momentum and won her match at No. 1 in straight sets 6-0, 6-2. Katherine Nguyen gave the Cougars the lead on court No. 5, by cruising to a 6-1, 6-3 straight set victory. Audrey Stewart followed Nyguen and won on court No. 6 by the score of 6-3, 6-4. The match was clinched by the Cougars on court No. 2 by April Wong. Wong won the tiebreak to take the first set 7-6, and won the second set 7-5.Â
