AZUSA, Calif. — No. 1 Azusa Pacific women's tennis is headed back to the national stage.

The Cougars punched their ticket to the NCAA Championships in Surprise, Arizona, defeating No. 4 seed Fresno Pacific 4-0 Friday afternoon at the NCAA West Regional in Azusa. The appearance marks APU's fifth consecutive trip to the NCAA finals site, continuing one of the most dominant stretches in program history.

Azusa Pacific set the tone early in doubles play, securing the point with wins on courts two and three.

Vini Bautista and Mariana Reveles Arreola opened the scoring with a hard-fought 6-4 victory at No. 2 doubles, followed by Shannele Lopez and Kimberly Tran earning another 6-4 win at No. 3 to clinch the doubles point for the Cougars.

The top doubles court between nationally ranked pairings was left unfinished at 6-6.

With momentum established, the Cougars carried their energy directly into singles.

Shannele Lopez was first off the court, cruising to a dominant 6-1, 6-3 victory at No. 4 singles to extend the lead. Moments later, Karola Suviste delivered another commanding performance at No. 3, winning 6-2, 6-1 while Kimberly Tran at No. 6, rolled to a 6-0, 6-3 victory to send them back to the NCAA Championships.

Several other matches were left unfinished at the moment of clinch, including tightly contested battles on the top two courts.

With the victory, Azusa Pacific improves to 24-2 overall and continues its remarkable postseason consistency under Director of Tennis Mark Bohren.
