SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Azusa Pacific headed down south on Monday afternoon for a match at Point Loma, and the Cougars came out on top with a 7-0 victory.
In the No. 3 doubles matchup, Carolyn Brooner and Lilla Plasek claimed a 6-1 win for the second time this season. Over on court #1, the doubles point was clinched for the Cougars by Nora Liga and Madison Kane, with the duo defeating Samantha Nielson and Angelique Frierich by a 6-2 score.Â
Azusa Pacific swept all six singles matches, with four players winning in straight sets. Nora Liga was the first to win at No. 1, beating Arianna Audelo 6-3, 6-0. Katherine Nguyen followed up Liga's win on court #6, where she handled Faith Pearson 6-3, 6-3. April Wong would claim responsibility as the match-clincher for the Cougars, as she won her No. 4 matchup against Nielson 7-6 (7-2), 6-2. Carolyn Brooner at No. 3 picked up the final straight set win of the day, taking the first set 6-4, and then closing it out in the second set 6-3.Â
On court #2, Kane found herself in an early hole, dropping the first set 2-6. However, she would flip the script in the second with a 6-2 win, and maintain momentum for a 6-3 third set victory to win her sixth singles match of the season.Â
The final result of the day came on court #6, where Plasek would win the first set 6-3, but fall in the second set 6-7 (6-8), which forced a super tiebreaker between her and opponent Amanda Letzring. Plasek would win 10-8 to complete the Cougars' sweep.
Up Next: The Cougars now sit at 4-3 overall, and will head to Concordia this Saturday (Feb. 25) for a 2:00 pm match.
