WAIPAHU, Hawai'i - Azusa Pacific took care of business on Saturday morning out in Hawai'i, beating Hawai'i Hilo by a 4-0 score to improve its record to 3-2.
Nora Liga and Madison Kane set the tone for the Cougars, as the duo cruised past Hilo's Carolina Alfonsin and Hannah Highsmith in the No. 1 doubles match by a 6-2 score. For Liga & Kane, it is the third time this season in which their opponents have won two or fewer games in a set. Over on court No. 3, Carolyn Brooner and Lilla Plasek won their second consecutive match, winning 6-1. With the pair of wins, Azusa Pacific took the doubles point for the 1-0 lead.
In singles, Liga continued her dominance in the No. 1 spot for the Cougars this season, as she beat Alfonsin in straight sets (6-1, 6-1) to improve to 5-0 this season with four consecutive straight set wins. Madison Kane also handled her opponent with relative ease at No. 2, where she got the better of Sandra Dafincescu by a 6-2, 6-0 score. Kane's 6-0 second set win is the third time in five matches in which she has not allowed an opponent to win a game in a set.
April Wong clinched the match for the Cougars in the No. 4 matchup, with Wong posting back-to-back 6-3 wins to secure the 4-0 score. With the match having been decided on Wong's victory, the remaining three singles matches went unfinished.
Up Next: After two matches in Hawai'i, the Cougars will return to Southern California for three-consecutive road contests. Azusa Pacific will travel to Biola (Sat., Feb 19), Point Loma (Mon., Feb 21) and Concordia (Fri., Feb 25), with its next home match scheduled for Saturday, March 5, when Division I Fresno State makes the trip to Azusa.
