FAIRBANKS, ALASKA - In Alaska this evening, Azusa Pacific swimming and diving defeated Alaska Fairbanks by a score of 133-66 in their dual meet, making this the fourth victory that the program has earned over the Nanooks in the last five times that they have traveled to Alaska.
Montana White also claimed another National Qualifying time at "B" standard.
The Cougars picked up nine event wins in the pool today, opening the meet with a victory in the 400 Yard Medley Relay, when
Amanda Anderson,
Marcelina Halawczak,
Marci Yanagawa and White swam a time of 4:08.03. The second place team of
Aleena Herrera,
Connor Herrin,
Delanie Gearing and
Riley Smith came in just three seconds after.Â
Herrera and White continued their fine starts for the year, each claiming first place in two individual events. White continued pace with a finishing time of 52.10 in the 100 Yard Freestyle earning a National Qualifying time at "B" standard, and 1:54.27 in the 200 Yard Freestyle to take home first in both events. Herrera tabbed a victory in the 200 Yard IM with a time of 2:14.01 and saw a first place finish in the 500 Yard Freestyle Relay with a time of 5:17.06.
Among other first place finishes,
Madeline Schultz claimed a victory in the 50 Yard Freestyle with a time of 25.24 and
Alexandra Szolnoki came in at an impressive time of 18:05.50 in the 1650 Yard Freestyle. Halawczak finished at 1:00.45 in the 100 Yard Butterfly and Yanagawa came in at 1:00.51 in the 100 Yard Backstroke.
Tessie Scavone took second in the 1650 with a time of 18:37.25 and collected three points in the 500 Yard Freestyle with a time of 5:26.79. Smith also had a good day in the pool, taking second in the 500 Yard Freestyle with a time of 5:20.68 and claimed third in the 50 Yard Freestyle, finishing just .01 second behind her teammate
Hannah Swailes (25.86).
Anderson and Herrin also picked up second places finishes in the meet with Anderson finishing at 1:04.40 in the 100 Yard Backstroke and Herrin coming in at 1:00.86, just .41 seconds behind teammate Halawczak in the 100 Yard Butterfly.Â
