AZUSA, Calif. – In a fall tradition, Azusa Pacific held its lone home swim meet of the season at Slauson Pool Saturday, hosting Division II foe Cal State East Bay and NAIA opponent Soka University in a three-way meet.
The highlights of the day for Azusa Pacific belonged to Sydnee Wilson, with the junior claiming first place in both the 100 (52.80 seconds) and 200 freestyle (1:57.29, winning by over two seconds).
Adding to the positive performances by the Cougars was Adelle Brush. Another one of the Cougar juniors, Brush had a season-best time of 2:15.47 in the 200 individual medley, good enough for second place on the day.
Also taking second on the podium in their featured event was Gillian Sato, earning second in the 100 breaststroke at 1:09.75. Sato would also pick up a third place overall in the 50 freestyle, hitting the wall in a time of 24.81 seconds.
In terms of scoring, the day was treated as three separate dual meets. Cal State East Bay won the day, defeating Azusa Pacific 129-68 and Soka 146-42. Meanwhile, Azusa Pacific earned a win over Soka, with 146 points to the Warriors' 41.
The Cougars took the opportunity during the meet to honor their two seniors, distance specialist Kya Guikema (who competed in both the 500- and 1000-yard freestyle events today) and sprinter Ellie Sivesind (who took fourth in the 100 freestyle and was on the second-place finisher in the 4x100 freestyle relay).
Having hosted Soka this week, the Cougars will pay a visit to the Warriors' home pool in Aliso Viejo next weekend for the Wyatt Balman Invitational.
