AZUSA, Calif. - The Cougars secured their eighth straight victory Friday, as they swept Concordia 4-0. Azusa Pacific now improves to 12-3 on the year.
For the second straight match, Ryan Nuno and Cole Rassner were paired together for the doubles matchups. The pairing got the first win on the day for the Cougars in which their match ended 6-2 in the No. 3 position. Jakob Schnaitter and Leyton Bohren followed right behind with a 6-3 victory in the No. 1 matchup. The Schnaitter and Bohren win secured the doubles point for the Cougars, giving them the advantage heading into the singles matchups. The No. 2 doubles contest went unfinished.
After his doubles victory, Nuno had an impressive day in his singles match as well at No. 3. He was the first to finish his match, he did so in straight sets 6-2, 6-3. No. 1 Schnaitter finished next and won his first set by a score of 6-1. The second set ended, 6-4, to make the overall score 3-0. Bohren represented Azusa Pacific at No. 4, as he battled to clinch the match for the Cougars. The first set would end in Bohren's favor, 6-3. The second set would be close, as late in the set the score was all tied at 5-5. He went on to win the final two games as he won the battle, 7-5. This clinched the 4-0 Cougar sweep of the Eagles. The contests at No. 2, No. 5, and No. 6 went unfinished. The Friday matchup between Azusa Pacific and Concordia closed out the 2021 season series. The Cougars took both matchups on the season.
