Biography

2022: In his final season as a Cougar, he was named an All-American, the West region's Arthur Ashe Leadership & Sportsmanship honoree, the Most Improved Senior, and the Senior Player of the Year. Named a First Team All-PacWest performer in singles play and doubles play alongside Leyton Bohren…Named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District team, an ITA scholar athlete and earned Academic All-PacWest distinction…He finished the season with a 16-6 singles record at No. 1, as well as a 16-6 doubles record alongside Leyton Bohren at No. 1 for the Cougars… Of Nuno's 16 singles victories, seven were against nationally-ranked opponents, and he won 10 of his matches in straight sets. 

2021 (Junior): Was named to All-PacWest Second-Team in singles... Awarded doubles First-Team alongside partner Sam Sippel… Ranked No. 10 in the final ITA West Region singles rankings and No. 5 in doubles with Sippel... Posted a 14-3 singles record (No. 3: 12-3 | No. 2: 2-0)... Finished the season 19-3 in doubles (No. 2: 14-3 | No. 3: 3-0 | No. 2-0)... Across singles and doubles, closed the season with a 33-6 record (.846 winning percentage)... Accumulated 17 straight doubles victories with two different partners in a streak that lasted over two months… In a home match against nationally ranked Hawai’i Hilo (March 6), he clinched a 4-3 victory for the Cougars as he won his match at No. 3 6-3, 4-6, 6-1…. Against Division I opponent Weber State (March 8), he played at No. 2 and secured victory over Sebastian Buxman 2-6, 6-1, 7-5… Claimed two straight victories in the PacWest Tournament in singles and doubles against ranked opponents Concordia (No. 14) and Hawai’i Hilo (No. 12).

2020 (COVID-shortened season): ITA Scholar-Athlete honoree… Opened season with a singles victory… Went 7-1 in doubles, with a 1-0 record at #1, 3-1 record at #2, and a 3-0 record at #3… Nuno and his doubles partner, Jakob Schnaitter, ended the year ranked eighth in the West Region... Academic All-PacWest distinction.

2019 (Sophomore): Was named to second-team All-PacWest for singles and doubles along with his partner Leyton Bohren… Appeared in 27 singles and doubles matches… He finished with a 18-2 record in singles and a 18-5 record in doubles play… Won nine straight singles matches in a streak that lasted from March 3rd until March 26th… Playing in the number one spot, won his match against Daemen (March 16) 6-1, 6-2… Won seven straight doubles matches in the number two spot with his partner Leyton Bohren in which lasted from February 8th until March 4th… The duo defeated Saint Leo University who was nationally ranked #5 in Division II at the time, 7-5... Selected to Academic All-PacWest.


2017 (Fall) : Nuno made it to the semi-finals, after beating Alexandre Munoz of Holy Names in the first round 2,3… second round he beat Mitchell Heckman of Sonoma State University 2, 0… Making it to the semi finals after a 2, 3 win over Lucas Lee of Biola University... Dropping the semi-final match to Lucas Franco (HPU) 1, 4. Paired with teammate Jesse Haas the two won the opening match over Joe Turnquist and Quentin Lau of Biola 8-2. Moving on to defeat Shimon Murakami and Otto Heinz of Concordia Irvine 8-4. In the semi-finals the pair fell 8-5 to No. 3 Gerardo Irarrazabal and Lucas Franco of Hawaii Pacific.
