POINT LOMA, Calif. - The Cougars traveled to Point Loma on Saturday to take on the Sea Lions for the final time this season, Azusa Pacific prevailed 4-1. The Cougars now hold a record of 13-3 on the year.
Cole Rassner and Ryan Nuno extended their doubles win streak to three matches as they secured a win in the No. 3 slot, 6-3. The Sea Lions took the No. 2 contest by a score of 6-2. This left the hands of the doubles point in the match at No. 1. After a hard fought battle from both pairings, the Sea Lion took the contest by a score of 6-4 as they clinched the doubles point. This gave Point Loma a 1-0 lead, as the Cougars had work to do heading into singles.
The Cougars would not fold as Sam Sippel got them going in the right direction with a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 2. Jakob Schnaitter followed behind Sippel with a straight set victory of his own 6-3, 6-2. Schnaitter played in the No. 1 position and secured his 13th singles win on the 2021 season. No. 4 Leyton Bohren would put the Cougars within just one of clinching the match as his contest ended 6-2, 6-2. The Cougars secured their 13th victory on the year as No. 6 Rassner won his matchup on Saturday. Rassner got the win in 6-3, 6-3 fashion. The competition at No. 3 and No. 5 went unfinished. With this victory Azusa Pacific secured their season sweep of Point Loma as they went 2-0 in two matchups.
Azusa Pacific returns to the court next Friday, April 16 in a home match. The Cougars will take on the Hawks of San Diego Christian at 2:30 PM. They will look to secure their 10th straight victory as the match can be followed with live stats here.
