AZUSA, Calif. - The Cougars secured their 10th straight victory as they defeated San Diego Christian by a score of 4-1. The win on Friday afternoon improves their record to 14-3 on the season as they head into the final regular season matchup.
The Azusa Pacific victory began with momentum which was gained from sweeping the doubles contests. No. 3 Ethan Smith and Dylan Parsley started it off for the Cougars as they quickly ended their match 6-1. Jakob Schnaitter and Leyton Bohren were to follow at No. 1. Schnaitter and Bohren secured the Cougars doubles point in 6-3 fashion. Sam Sippel and Ryan Nuno secured the doubles sweep over the Hawks in the No. 2 slot. However, it was not easy to come by as the matchup went to the tiebreak set. Sippel and Nuno battled and fourth as they came out victorious 7-6 (7-2).
Singles contests followed as No. 1 Schnaitter was the first to claim victory for the Cougars. Schnaitter had an impressive performance and won in straight sets 6-1, 6-2. For the third time on the season, Nuno played in the No. 2 matchup. Nuno followed right behind Schnaitter as he ended his contest 6-1, 6-1. The Hawks would then make the score 3-1 as they took the No. 3 match 7-6, 6-4. Cole Rassner clinched the Cougar's 14th victory of the season as he ended his contest in straight sets as well 6-0, 6-1. The No. 4 and No. 5 contests went unfinished following Rassner's win at No. 6.
The Cougars will make a quick turn around as they take on the Hawai'i Pacific Sharks tomorrow, April 17 at 2:30 PM. This is the final regular season match for Azusa Pacific before the conference tournament.
