IRVINE, Calif. -- For the second consecutive day at the 2021 PCSC Championships, the Azusa Pacific Cougars swept first through third place on the diving boards, led by Amy Crayne who won her second consecutive conference title in the one-meter competition. In the pool, Tessie Scavone and Riley Smith had top-three finishes in individual events, and the Cougars find themselves in third place with 601 points heading into the final day of competition on Friday.Â

Crayne, who repeated as the PCSC Champion in the three-meter event on Wednesday, added her second consecutive one-meter crown as well with a score of 279.80. In second place was teammate Melia Stout, who posted a final tally of 250.65, followed by McKenna Webster's third-place performance of 237.55. Overall, the three divers combined for 87 points toward Azusa Pacific's team total, as Crayne's first place finish was worth 32 points, Stout added 28, and Webster contributed 27.Â

"Our divers came to the Championships with a determination to show how hard they have trained," said Azusa Pacific diving coach Cindy Adams, "Their performances were strong, consistent, and I am so proud of their 1-3 sweep on both boards! Amy put her years of training to work and represented Azusa Pacific well with her first-place finishes in both events."

In the lanes, the relay team of Melinda Davis, Holly Williams, Nicole Barton and Karina Parker started the day off with a 10th-place finish in the 200 medley relay, scoring 34 points with a time of 1:56.05. In the first individual race of the day, Emily Rigsby had a sixth place finish in the 100 butterfly, swimming a time of 57.89 for 24 points. Barton and Parker also scored for the Cougars in the event, with Barton placing 14th (59.66) for 13 points and Parker adding three points (22nd - 1:02.55).Â

The first podium-worthy performance of the day came in the 400 IM, as Scavone's 4:35.27 race earned her third place and 27 points. In the next event, the 200 free, Smith delivered 27 more points with a third-place time of 1:52.83. It was Smith's second top-three finish of the Championships, as she took second in the 500 free on Wednesday.

In the 100 breast, Azusa Pacific picked up a total of 38 points between Delanie Gearing's sixth-place finish (1:07.08) for 24 points, and Williams' 13th-place finish (1:10.47) for 14 points. Following the 100 breast was the 100 back, another event in which multiple Cougars had scoring-worthy performances. Elaine Wong led the way in the event, swimming a time of 1:01.33 for an 11th-place finish and 16 points. In 19th place was Davis, who chipped in six points with a time of 1:03.76. Jesslyn Handaja picked up one more point for the Cougars, as she claimed the final scoring position of 24th with a time of 1:05.22.

The Cougars put an exclamation point on the swimming portion of day two, as the 800 free relay team of Smith, Gearing, Scavone and Rigsby took third-place (7:43.69) and claimed 54 points in the final race on Thursday.

"Day two was another strong showing on the boards and in the pool," said head coach Tim Kyle, "Even with having a smaller squad this year, we are still in the fight for a possible top-five finish! That is a true testament to how hard the team has worked, in a short period of time, to race this well. One more day to go!"
