AZUSA, Calif. - Azusa Pacific was defeated by Division I opponent Weber State by a 5-2 final on Monday afternoon.

The Cougars took the early match lead and the doubles point from the Wildcats, winning two of the three matchups. The Azusa Pacific pairing of Ryan Nuno and Sam Sippel opened the contest with a 6-2 win at No. 2. In the No. 2 match, Dylan Parsley and Ethan Smith were then defeated by a score of 6-2. The doubles point was claimed in the No. 3 match in a back and forth battle, with Leyton Bohren ultimately delivering the final point via an excellent serve that lifted he and partner Cole Rassner to a 6-4 win and a 1-0 Cougar lead in the match.

After losing the doubles point, the Wildcats came back in singles by winning in straight sets in the No. 5, 3, and 4 matches. The No. 6 and No. 1 matches both went to a tiebreak in the second set. The match was clinched by the Wildcats as they won their fourth straight singles match in the No. 6 slot. The final match to finish on the day was the No. 3 match, in which Nuno got the lone singles victory of the day of the Cougars by a score of 2-6, 6-1, 7-5. Nuno was down 5-4 in the final set and battled back to secure an impressive comeback victory.Â

The Cougars return to action on Thursday in which they travel to rival Biola and take on the Eagles at 2:30 PM.
