Cougars Win Fourth Straight

Azusa Pacific beat Metro State 5-2 on Monday afternoon.

AZUSA, Calif. -- Azusa Pacific picked up its eighth win of the season (8-3) on Monday afternoon, defeating Metro State 5-2. 

 

For the third consecutive match, the Cougars opened by taking all three doubles matchups to claim the point and grab momentum. Jakob Schnaitter and Leyton Bohren made quick work at No. 1, winning 6-1, followed by Sam Sippel and Ryan Nuno's 6-2 clinching victory, and then Ethan Smith and Dylan Parsley battled to a 7-5 win at No. 3.

 

Azusa Pacific cruised to a match victory with overall ease in singles, with Sippel opening with a 6-2, 6-2 No. 2 win, followed by Schnaitter's 22nd-consecutive singles victory, as he took the No. 1 dual at 6-1, 6-4. Bohren would deliver the match-clinching performance at No. 4, as he took the first set by a 6-1 score, and then closed it out in the second set with a 6-4 win to give the Cougars the 4-0 match score. Nuno would add one more point for the Cougars at No. 3, winning 6-0, 6-2. Metro State picked up two points with wins at No. 5 and No. 6. 

 

With the victory, Azusa Pacific now takes a four-match win streak into Wednesday, when the Cougars will host Cal Lutheran at 2:30 pm.
