Cougars Stay Hot

Azusa Pacific men’s tennis defeated Division III opponent Cal Lutheran 7-0 on Wednesday afternoon.

AZUSA, Calif. - Azusa Pacific improved to 9-3 on Wednesday in which they defeated Cal Lutheran via the sweep 7-0. 

The Cougars took all of the doubles matches to gain the doubles point, the Cougars have now swept all of their doubles matches in four consecutive contests. Ryan Nuno and Sam Sippel began their impressive showings on Wednesday with a 6-0 sweep in the No. 2 slot. Jakob Schnaitter and Leyton Bohren followed right behind by taking their match by a score of 6-3. The doubles contests ended on an impressive service ace from Ethan Smith in which he and Dylan Parsley won their matchup by a score of 6-4.

In all matchups on Wednesday, the Cougars did not lose a single set. Ryan Nuno got the Cougars started off in singles by quickly winning his No. 3 matchup 6-2, 6-0. Ethan Smith finished right behind Nuno in the No. 6 slot as he won his singles contest 6-1, 6-4. Sam Sippel clinched the match for the Cougars with his impressive 6-0, 6-1 victory in the No. 2 matchup. The No. 5 contest was won by Cole Rassner as he won in straight sets as well 6-3, 6-0. Leyton Bohren obtained the 6th point on the day for the Cougars in which his matchup ended 6-1, 6-4. Team Captain Jakob Schnaitter sealed the 7-0 sweep for the Cougars as he closed out the match with a hard fought 6-4, 7-5 victory. 

The Cougars will look to extend their winning streak to six matches as they take on Biola this Saturday, March 27. The matchup is set to begin at 2:00 PM and will be home at home for Azusa Pacific. The contest can be followed via live stats here.
