Bohren Named ITA Division II National Coach of the Year

Azusa Pacific director of tennis leads Cougars to PacWest title and NCAA quarterfinal appearance in historic 2026 season.

AZUSA, Calif. — Azusa Pacific Director of Tennis Mark Bohren has been named the 2026 ITA Division II Men's Coach of the Year following another historic season leading the Cougar men's tennis program.

Bohren guided Azusa Pacific to a 23-6 overall record in 2026, continuing the Cougars' rise as one of the premier programs in the West Region and across Division II tennis.

Under Bohren's leadership, Azusa Pacific captured the 2026 PacWest Conference Tournament Championship, earning the program's fourth conference title in the last five years. Bohren was also named the 2026 PacWest Conference Coach of the Year after leading the Cougars to one of the strongest seasons in program history.

"I am so happy for Mark, and am proud of who he is and the accomplishments of his tenure at APU," said Azusa Pacific Director of Athletics Gary Pine.  "He is our longest tenured coach, spanning across 4 different decades, and he has been a model of consistency throughout, willingly working behind the scenes, not asking for recognition but constantly putting forth his best effort in a calm manner that draws great players to him."

The Cougars advanced to the NCAA Tournament and reached the national finals site in Surprise, Arizona, where they defeated Indianapolis in the Sweet Sixteen before advancing to the NCAA quarterfinals. Azusa Pacific's postseason run ultimately came to an end against top-seeded Barry, one of the nation's undefeated programs.

Azusa Pacific finished the season with a dominant 14-1 home record and earned a No. 21 national ranking in the final ITA Division II poll.

The national honor adds another milestone to Bohren's decorated coaching career, which has spanned decades of success at Azusa Pacific. Known for building consistent championship-level programs on both the men's and women's sides, Bohren once again positioned the Cougars among the nation's elite during the 2026 campaign.

From conference championships to deep NCAA Tournament runs, Bohren's impact continues to define one of the most successful eras in Azusa Pacific tennis history.
