While #23 Azusa Pacific was able to get out to a 3-2 lead after the first period, #15 Fresno State used a 5-0 second period to grab the momentum and ultimately win 11-8 on Friday afternoon in a Golden Coast Conference game. Following a quick goal by the Bulldogs to open the game, senior
Mar Pastor Alvarez scored two consecutive goals to give the Cougars a 2-1 lead with 2:03 left in the first period. Less than 15 seconds later, Fresno State tied the game with a goal from Trystyn Vuori. Just 13 seconds later, the Cougars took the lead right back, when sophomore
Hannah Bradley found the back of the net to make it 3-2.

Over the entire second period and most of the third period, Fresno State scored six unanswered goals to grab an 8-3 lead with 3:34 remaining in the third period. Azusa Pacific would finally break the scoreless drought, when senior
Carinna Prince scored off of an assist from Pastor Alvarez with 3:11 remaining in the third. The Cougars would cut into the Fresno State lead again in the third, as freshman Milena Guzmán Ortiz scored a goal at the 1:55 mark to make it 8-5, Bulldogs. While Fresno State pushed the lead back up to four with a goal 30 seconds later, Guzmán Ortiz scored a second goal in the third period to make the score 9-6 as the game went into the final period of play.

The Bulldogs struck first in the fourth period, as Vuori scored her third goal of the game with 7:11 left. Azusa Pacific answered two minutes later, as senior
Arianne Yeo scored off an assist from junior
Mireia Tutusaus Alcaraz. Each team would score once more in the game, as Fresno State scored its 11
th and final goal with 4:45 left in the game, and Bradley scored her second goal of the game with 1:26 remaining.

Pastor Alvarez, Bradley, and Guzmán Ortiz each had two goals in the game for Azusa Pacific. Pastor Alvarez also had an assist and a steal in the game. Senior
Annalise Batcheller finished with two assists and two steals. Sophomore
Olivia Lott played all 32 minutes in goal for the Cougars, as she finished with five saves.Â
Following the defeat, Azusa Pacific is now 14-12 overall, with a 1-2 GCC record. The Cougars are right back in action tomorrow, as they welcome #7 Pacific for an 11:00 a.m. game at the Citrus Aquatic Center.
