Box Score Azusa, Calif.-- The University of Azusa Pacific women's tennis team took advantage of another rivalry Cornerstone Cup match against Biola University Friday afternoon, shutting out the Eagles 4-0 at the Munson and Bavougian Tennis Courts. With the victory, the Cougars improve 9-5 on the season.
The Cougars jumped out strong in doubles with
April Wong and
Anna Savchenko posting a 6-1 victory at the No. 2 position. The tandem of
Courtney Page and
Katia Betancourt finished strong to secure the double point at the No. 3 spot with a 6-2 win.
In singles, APU made a power move with three straight-set wins to clean up the 4-0 sweep of the Eagles. At the No. 2 slot,
Anna Savchenko came in hot with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Ines Diaz to make it a two point advantage. Next, it was
April Wong at the No. 4 position who hit the finish line, tacking up a smooth 6-0, 6-0 win over Madison Swaney for a 3-0 lead. Coming in with the clincher APU's
Jacky Wagner, who topped Biola's Lily Waterhouse 6-1, 6-0 to end the day early on a 4-0 APU sweep that suspended the remaining three matches.
The Cougars will be back in action on Wednesday, March 27 against Concordia with a 1:30 p.m. matchup at the Munson and Bavougain Tennis Courts.
