#25 Azusa Pacific capped off an undefeated weekend at the Cal Lutheran Tina Finali Invitational on Saturday, as the Cougars defeated host Cal Lutheran 9-6 to start the day, and took down Sonoma State by a 9-5 final a couple of hours later. Azusa Pacific went 3-0 on the weekend, as it defeated Fresno Pacific 10-5 on Friday.

Following a first-half in which each team matched the other, Azusa Pacific used a 3-0 third period to take control of the match. At halftime, the two sides were tied at 4-4. Junior
Mireia Tutusaus Alcaraz broke the tie game for the Cougars, as she scored a goal with just under four minutes remaining in the third, to give the Cougars a 5-4 lead. A few minutes later, Azusa Pacific would increase its lead to 6-4, as senior
Mar Pastor Alvarez scored her third goal of the game with 1:11 left in the third. Tutusaus Alcaraz would add one more goal for the Cougars in third, as she found the back of the net with just 11 seconds left in the period, to give Azusa Pacific a 7-4 lead. In the fourth period, both teams would score two goals over the final eight minutes.

Pastor Alvarez led the way for the Cougars with three goals, scoring in the first, second, and third periods. Tutusaus Alcaraz finished with two goals in the match.

The Cougars got up early on Sonoma State, as they took a 4-2 lead after the first period. However, Sonoma State would respond, holding the Cougars scoreless in the second period, while scoring two goals to bring the score to a 4-4 halftime tie.

Azusa Pacific would break the tie just a little over a minute into the second half. Sophomore
Gabrielle Martinez scored to put the Cougars up 5-4, a lead that would not be relinquished for the remainder of the match. Pastor Alvarez added a second goal for Azusa Pacific in the third, as she scored with 37 seconds remaining in the period.

Azusa Pacific would close out the game with three goals in the fourth, while holding Sonoma State to a lone goal. Junior
Sarah Adams and Tutusaus Alcaraz had two goals for the Cougars, while freshman
Lauren Hoyle, sophomore
Gabrielle Martinez, freshman Milena Guzmán Ortiz, and Pastor Alvarez each finished with one goal.

Up Next: #25 Azusa Pacific improved to 8-8 on the year. The Cougars are scheduled to play in the Claremont Convergence Tournament this upcoming weekend. Azusa Pacific will open Virginia Military Institute on Mar. 1 at 10:00 a.m., followed by a second game of the day against Pomona-Pitzer at 10:00 a.m. The Cougars are also scheduled to take on UC Santa Barbara and Claremont-Mudd-Scripts on Saturday, Mar. 2.
