AZUSA, Calif. – It was pretty much the perfect ending to the regular season.
The Cougars closed out the regular season slate with a 12-4 win against Concordia and, in the process, celebrated two seniors who have been a huge influence on the program.
Prior to the contest the team recognized the contribution of Britt Harris and Erica Marquez. Harris has scored over 150 goals in her career and has already been recognized as an All-American. Marquez is on the verge of setting the school's career steals record all the while making 600-plus saves in front of the cage.
During Saturday's win Harris scored a hat trick; which was capped off with a breakaway goal with 11 ticks remaining on the clock. She also had a team best two assists. Marquez made 12 saves and recorded two steals in front of the cage.
"I really could talk about how much Britt and Erica have meant to this program for quite a while," said head coach Julie Snodgrass. "They have raised the level of play and pushed their teammates to a higher standard. Their legacy is such a positive one that I cannot say enough good things about them."
The win gives the Cougars a 15-14 record which concludes the first winning regular season in the program's 10-year history.
Azusa Pacific continues its season on Friday at the Golden Coast Conference Tournament hosted at Loyola Marymount University. The official seeding and games time will be released on the league's website.
Throughout the contest, the Cougars were firmly in control. They scored the game's first four goals and never let the Eagles (5-15, 0-7 GCC) within three goals of tying the score.
Aside from the senior success, the Cougars were able to get every non-goalie into the contest. Britni Tisdale scored a team best four goals on just five shots. Mar Pastor found the back of the cage twice to aid in the convincing win.
