ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The Cougars offense got opportunities but just couldn't put goals on the scoreboard.
Azusa Pacific was able to put 19 shots on frame but couldn't get the ball into the back of the cage enough as they fell 9-4 to No. 17 Long Beach State at the Wolverine Invitational.
Both Britt Harris and Mar Pastor each took a team high six shots as the Cougars had to play from behind. Long Beach State scored the only goal of the first quarter when Tori Morrissey hit the back of the net with 4:41 left in the stanza.
An Arianne Yeo net-finder just before the midway point of the second quarter tied the game at 1-1. Long Beach State scored the final two goals of the stanza as they took a 3-1 edge into the intermission. Despite still getting opportunities the Cougars couldn't score as the 49ers pulled away. Long Beach State scored the first four goals of the third period before an even strength goal from Britni Tisdale made the score 7-3 heading into the final stanza.
Long Beach State all but put the game out of reach with the first two goals of the fourth period. Goals from Annalise Batcheller and Shanna Stevenson wrapped-up the scoring.
Eirini Patras made 15 saves from the 49ers while Erica Marquez made 12 saves through three quarters while Olivia Lott made five in the final quarter.
On a good note for the Cougars Yeo won a pair of sprints while Tisdale also won of her own.
