STOCKTON, Calif. – University of Pacific, who came into the game ranked eighth in the nation, started strong and continued to apply the pressure throughout the contest in recording a 15-7 win against the Cougars on Saturday afternoon.
The loss ends to the Cougars three-game winning streak and drops their overall record to 12-10 while leveling their Golden Coast Conference mark to 1-1.
The Tigers (8-6) jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the first period. Azusa Pacific scored the opening goal of the second stanza when Mireia Tutusaus Alcaraz scored on a feed from Gabrielle Martinez. Unfortunately the home team continued to apply pressure offensively. They scored three unanswered goals in grabbing a 7-1 edge with just over four minutes left in the quarter. The high scoring frame continued with Hannah Bradley and Arianne Yeo scored but University of Pacific closed the quarter with two more goals in taking a 9-3 lead at the half way point.
There was no stop for the home team as they won the third stanza by a 4-1 count. Azusa battled into the fourth quarter and claimed victory in the last eight minutes. Britni Tisdale found the back of the cage twice and Carinna Prince scored as well as the Cougars outscored University of Pacific 3-2 in the frame.
Alcaraz and Tisdale each had a team best two goals. Mar Pastor was credited with a pair of assists.
Defensively Erica Marquez made six saves in the first three quarters before Olivia Lott closed the game with a pair of saves in the fourth frame.
Azusa Pacific returns to the San Gabriel Valley for their first home games in over a month when they host San Diego State at 5:00 p.m.
