Offense On Full Display

WHITTIER, Calif. – The Cougars continued their winning ways of late as they their third and fourth straight on Saturday.

At the annual Whittier College mini-tournament the Cougars knocked off Chapman to start the two-game event before topping Redlands to close out the weekend.

Heading into a two-week break before their next competition, the Cougars are 5-2 which is their best seven-game start in the nine years the program has been competing. Furthermore, Azusa Pacific has scored 90 goals which is the most they have scored through seven contests.

During this early season success, they have won three of their last four game by double figure goals

Annalise Batcheller led the way with a hat trick as the Cougars raced out to an early lead and never relented.

In the first period Batcheller and Mar Pastor each scored twice to aid in Azusa Pacific's 6-2 lead after eight minutes. Chapman scored the initial goal of the second frame but the Cougar's offense, as well as defense, were too much for the Panthers. Offensively Sarah Adams, Melissa Joerke, Britni Tisdale and Jordan Hummingbird all scored. On the opposite side of the pool they kept the Chapman offense off the scoreboard the rest of the period.

The solid defensive effort continue into the third stanza as the Cougars shutout Chapman while Amanda Previch and Britt Harris bolstered the Azusa Pacific lead to 12-3.

Batcheller completed her hat trick early in the final frame the Adams found the back of the cage for the second time. Azusa Pacific's shutout streak in the contest came to an end after nearly 20 minutes as Chapman scored the game's final goal.

After a somewhat slow beginning, the Cougars offense performed quite well. Three different players posted a hat trick as Azusa Pacific ran away with a big win.

Sarah Adams led the way with a four-goal game. It is the second straight weekend the sophomore has found the back of the cage four times in a game. Britni Tisdale and Mireia Tutusaus Alcaraz each notched hat tricks as well.

The Cougars and Bulldogs were knotted at 2-2 after the first period but the Azusa Pacific offense picked-up its pace in the second frame. They won the period 6-2 to put the game's momentum in their favor then all but put the game away with a 5-2 scoring edge in the third period.

The last eight minutes were academic. Azusa Pacific scored four of the stanza's five goals.

All told there were 10 different players who scored for the Cougars.
